The Lutheran Home: Belle Plaine provides a variety of services for residents, clients, their families and the community. These include:
- Rehabilitative therapies, including short-term care
- Skilled nursing care, including respite and hospice care
- Special Care Residence for individuals with Alzheimer’s

Our services and hospitality make us more than a nursing home, and our staff is dedicated to meeting individual needs. Additionally, The Lutheran Home is part of a 22-acre continuum of care campus.

Additionally, a registered dietitian is on staff, and a clinic with family medical services provided by the Mayo Clinic Health System is conveniently located on our campus.
We also have a newly renovated building, which offers 5 neighborhoods, or living areas. Each neighborhood is designed to create a home-like feel and promote personalized care. This includes café-style dining and nursing staff located nearby. We also have several indoor and outdoor common areas for family and friends to enjoy.
Each room features:

Rehabilitative care
We partner with Aegis Therapies to provide rehabilitative therapies for all ages through our Wellness and Rehabilitation Center. We offer:
- Comprehensive physical, occupational and speech therapies
- State-of-the-art Nautilus equipment and technology
- Wellness programs and resources
- Opportunities to practice life skills
Our therapists work with you to gain strength, mobility, coordination and increased cognitive abilities to enhance your quality of life.
Outpatient therapies
Our Wellness & Rehabilitation Center provides strong services and a convenient location to meet your therapy needs, including
- High school sport injuries
- Joint rehabilitation
- Back and neck strains
- Knee replacement recovery
Short-term skilled nursing care
Our Transitional Care Services focuses on preparing you to return to your home and providing respite care. The average stay is 30 days in one of our 22 private rooms.
Your room is part of a neighborhoods, which includes a dining area and a kitchenette. Located nearby are trained medical staff, including
registered nurses.
Each person has a private room that can be customized with personal items.
Long-term skilled nursing care
Sometimes, a person needs more substantial care because of a chronic or degenerative condition. We can help provide compassionate and appropriate care for you or your loved one.
Each person has a private room, connected to a living area or neighborhood. You are welcome to customize it with your personal items.
Our residents’ interests, hobbies and recreational pursuits continue while they are living here. We have several Wii games available, and shopping trips or baseball games are often enjoyed.
Alzheimer’s care
Our Special Care Residence is a dedicated area to serve individuals with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. As dementia progresses, so do behavioral and medical issues. We provide specialized care designed to meet each person’s unique needs. This includes:
- 2 neighborhoods, or living areas, designed for individuals with Alzheimer’s
- Social events and opportunities
- Courtyard and sun room
- Ongoing staff training for Alzheimer’s care
- A safe and secure environment
Both private and semi-private rooms are available so each person can have what fits their needs and preferences.
Additionally, a nationally-recognized support group meets monthly at Kingsway Retirement Living for community members whose lives are touched by Alzheimer’s and other memory loss disorders. Spiritual care
Spiritual care is an important part of our services. Our campus staff includes an ordained Chaplain.
At The Lutheran Home, Pastor Ed Friedrich offers morning devotions, Bible Classes, worship services and personal visits.
The chapel is part of The Lutheran Home’s first floor, but is also visible from the second floor through an enclosed balcony, if individuals wish to watch services closer to their rooms. The space is desgined to be easily accessible for anyone who comes to the chapel.
