Why I Like to Work at The Lutheran Home: Belle Plaine

TLHA employee

This coming March, I will have been here for 32 years. When I first started at TLHA, I worked at Hope Residence as a Living Unit Assistant. I then became a Living Unit Coordinator and a Social Work/Program Manager, respectively, before becoming a Licensed Social Worker. When I first started working as a Social Worker, I split my time between Hope Residence and The Lutheran Home: Belle Plaine. I eventually transitioned fully to The Lutheran Home: Belle Plaine where I am still at today. A couple of years ago, I also spent some time at Kingsway Retirement Living when I filled in as a Social Events Coordinator.

TLHA Christmas Card Artist

Mankato, MN–Marcelline Babcock, age 77, doesn’t consider herself an artist. She gives that credit to her sister who is a painter, despite being legally blind. In spite of this, Marcelline recently earned the title of Christmas card artist due to her design being chosen in The Lutheran Home Association’s (TLHA) annual Christmas art contest. The selected design appears on more than 27,000 cards that are sent out worldwide by this non-profit ministry.

Belle Plaine, MN–The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently awarded The Lutheran Home: Belle Plaine an overall five-star rating—the highest possible. A five-star rating means the home was “much above average.” CMS’s “Five-Star Quality Rating System” includes surveys, staffing and quality measures in addition to the overall rating. This ranking system is used for skilled nursing facilities throughout the United States. Only 10% of all nursing homes in the United States receive this ranking.
