Home to Home Thrift Store closing after 19 years

BELLE PLAINE, MN – October 10, 2017 The Lutheran Home Association announces the Home to Home Thrift Store in Belle Plaine, Minn. will close its doors on November 15, 2017.

The decision was made after a thorough analysis of the market in Belle Plaine and surrounding area.

“Closing the thrift store in Belle Plaine was a difficult decision for our leaders,” said Michael Klatt, chief executive officer and president of The Lutheran Home Association. “We are thankful for the years of service from our volunteers and staff. Their contribution provided significant charitable resources to our campus benefiting our residents and team members.”

As a ministry of The Lutheran Home Foundation, the thrift store sold local secondhand and new merchandise to community members for more than 19 years. All proceeds of the store supported The Lutheran Home Belle Plaine Campus which includes The Lutheran Home: Belle Plaine, a skilled nursing facility, Hope Residence, a disability housing facility, Boessling Village Apartments, a HUD senior housing facility and Kingsway Retirement Living, an independent living, assisted living and memory care facility.

Throughout the years, the store provided holiday decorations and Christmas gifts for residents and recently proceeds purchased blanket warmers and resident room lighting. 

“We have seen support from local community members and area churches throughout the years,” said Joann Pomije, manager of the Home to Home Thrift Store. “Thank you to our more than 100 volunteers throughout the last 19 years. We appreciate their dedication to our ministry.”
