a The Soul of Care

Jesus Cares Ministries

Sharing God’s Word with people who have disabilities as a part of TLHA since 1998

Jesus Cares Ministries (JCM) assists congregations in reaching out to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their families and communities. Nationwide, JCM programs encourage Bible studies, worship and fellowship opportunities.

We assist congregations in developing Bible classes and worship services designed to meet each person at his or her comprehensive level. Our JCM staff members

  • Offer step-by-step encouragement
  • Help develop publicity materials
  • Assist in researching the community to find people who can be served
  • Train volunteers to help them better reach people with developmental disabilities

Our materials

We offer Bible studies and worship services designed for the people we serve. Other resources are also available for congregations, JCM volunteers, teachers, pastors and families. Our Christian curriculum and Bible studies especially provide useful teaching materials for JCM Bible classes.

We are offering “The Christmas Story” from the first set of Dear Christian Friend to as a free download.

“New Friends” Youth Initiative

High school and college students also have the chance to share God’s Word with people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities through “New Friends.”

JCM’s history

In 1985, the Special Education Services Committee of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), saw a need to find a way to better share the Gospel with people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. As a result, they developed the Jesus Cares Bible class program, starting in southeastern Wisconsin. By 1993, the program had a full-time administrator and was incorporated into Jesus Cares Ministries (JCM).

JCM became part of The Lutheran Home Association’s ministry in 1998. Our JCM team members assist volunteers to help them reach out to their communities with the Gospel.
