Hope residents compete in Special OlympicsThirteen residents from The Lutheran Home: Hope Residence competed in the Area 9 Special Olympic athletics competition on Sunday, May 6. They participated in the softball throw, the tennis ball throw, a 10 m wheelchair walk, a 25 m wheelchair walk, a 25 m walk and a 50 m walk. All athletes received ribbons for finishing first through sixth places. |

AskJackie.org – A new blog for families of children with special needsMeet Jackie Mayer once and you will believe in her vision and passion. Jackie is our Community Relations Director for Jesus Cares Ministries in the Manitowoc, Wisconsin area. She also has a son with Fragile X Syndrome, a genetic disorder in the X chromosome which is a leading cause of mental retardation in boys. Informed of this diagnosis over the phone by her doctor, Jackie immediately turned to the web for answers. In fact, her doctor told her he didn’t know much about it and told her to look it up on the web. So she did. Our hope is to share Jackie’s story and the Lord’s message with other families in the same situation. AskJackie.org will be a forum for others to share ideas, seek advice and know that they don’t need to travel this road alone.

To determine those named to their list, the authors reviewed data from 15,500 nursing homes across the country and determined the best in each state.
