TLHA to Host National Summit on Senior and Disability Ministries
BELLE PLAINE, MINN., March 2014 – This coming May, The Lutheran Home Association will host a National Summit on Senior and Disability Ministries for church congregation members, nurses, healthcare personnel and other individuals in the healthcare field. This event will provide individuals with opportunities to network with industry representatives, join educational sessions, participate in panel discussions, visit with exhibitors and enjoy an evening celebration with live entertainment. The 2014 National Summit will be held on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3 at Mystic Lake Conference Center in Prior Lake, Minn. Nurses and social workers will have the opportunity to receive up to 4.5 continuing education units (CEU) for attending the educational sessions.
The National Summit on Senior and Disability Ministries includes the following sessions and speakers.
- Real Hope when Confronted with Dementia, presented by Lori La Bey, founder of Alzheimer’s Speaks and Rev. Curt Seefeldt, director of church relations with The Lutheran Home Association.
- Come Closer, Give Me Hope, Malawi, a panel discussion including representatives from The Lutheran Home Association, Jesus Cares Ministries, WELS Kingdom Works and Kingdom Workers Lutheran Health Alliance.
- Offering Hope in Dealing with Medical End of Life Issues, presented by Michael Klatt, president and chief executive officer of The Lutheran Home Association and Rev. Robert Fleischmann, national director with Christian Life Resources.
- Person-Centered Hope in the World of Disabilities, presented by Dr. Amy S. Hewitt from the University of Minnesota Institute on Community Integration.
- Pondering Unlimited Possibilities – Hope for us all, presented by Handicap This! with actors Mike Berkson and Tim Wambach.
“We look forward to continuing to help seniors and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through our ministry and this National Summit,” Klatt said. “This educational event will provide congregations and individuals with practical strategies they need to provide quality Christian care.”
