Your acts of generosity ensure our longevity. With planned giving you can provide long-lasting support for The Lutheran Home Association in general, or a specific community.
What to give
- A bequest from your will or living trust. You can identify a dollar amount or percentage of your estate to leave in your will or revocable living trust to support our work.
- Stocks and bonds. Contact your financial advisor to transfer stocks or bonds by a Transfer on Death designation.
- Mutual funds. Your financial advisor can help you direct mutual funds by Beneficiary designation.
- Life Insurance. You can name one of our ministries the Beneficiary of a life insurance policy.
- Real estate. You can leave real estate, such as a home, lake property, undeveloped land, farm land, or commercial property to benefit our ministry. Some donors find this an attractive option for out-of-state property which can take extra effort to market. Placing a home or farmland in a charitable retained life estate will allow you to continue to enjoy full use of your property and enjoy a charitable deduction during your lifetime.
- Retirement assets. Donating part or all of your unused retirement assets such as your traditional IRA, 401(k), 403(b), Health Savings Account or other tax-deferred plan is an excellent way to make a gift to our ministry. The same is true of commercial annuities or savings bonds. These assets typically have tax consequences if left to your estate or heirs. However, they pass tax-free when left to charity. Highly taxed assets are excellent investments for funding a Charitable Remainder Trust to provide an income stream for heirs for a period of years, then making a distribution to benefit charity when the trust ends.
Our Office of Mission Advancement stands ready to help you. We stand ready to answer a single question or to help you develop a comprehensive estate plan to take to your legal and financial professionals. We will construct a plan which is simple to administer and tax-friendly for your heirs!
