High praise for spiritual care

The residents of Highland Regency House, an independent senior apartment community in New Ulm, Minn., enjoy something they are not shy about it. When chatting with Barb Weicherding, property manager at Highland, they always share stories of their favorite things.

One of their favorites is Pastor Roger Woller. Each week, he leads a Bible study class for the residents of Highland. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, Pastor Woller continued to share God’s Word through a Bible study class.

“I am so thankful Highland hosts Bible study,” said Faye. “Due to COVID-19 and my health concerns, I am afraid to attend my church in person. Pastor Woller provides such a wonderful service to the building.”

Although some activities saw a drop in participation, Pastor Woller’s Bible study class expanded to host two smaller classes. This allowed for additional people to attend the Bible study provided that they followed the safety protocols in place.

Faye isn’t the only resident who raved about Pastor Woller. Others were quick to share feedback with Barb.

  • “I so appreciate Pastor coming to Highland.”
  • “Pastor Woller is such a kind and gentle person.”
  • “Pastor Roger does such a good job with Bible study.”
  • “I like the Bible bingo, especially the candy.”

Access to spiritual care is something that sets Highland and all care communities of The Lutheran Home Association (TLHA) apart. A dedicated chaplain is an important asset of each community.

“Many come to us and receive amenities that transcend programs and furnishings,” said Mark Hayes, president of the ministry. “They build lasting Christian friendships and deep connections with Christ at a pivotal time in life.”
