Something Great and Glorious!
Because of his own righteousness, the Lord was pleased to make his law great and glorious. (Isaiah 42:21)
What has real value? How would you answer that question? I know for myself; the answer would depend on what is important to me at the moment. Although something may appear important at a certain time, in the long term, often the importance wanes.
Our verse today occurs in one of the Servant Songs of Isaiah. It speaks of what Jesus would accomplish when he came as our Brother. This section speaks about Israel and how they didn’t notice. That didn’t stop our Lord. Because of his own righteousness, Jesus accomplished the impossible.
When God created Adam and Eve, he made them perfect. They were created to live to the glory of their Creator. The Bible also records how we lost that perfect relationship, but God’s law remained. Now because of sin, we don’t consider that law as “great and glorious.” Some want to deny its existence and say it no longer is relevant. Those convicted of guilt see the law as an impossible standard, which it is for us because of our sinful nature.

But look what Jesus did! During this season of Lent, we continue to review what Jesus accomplished because of his own righteousness. He led the perfect life. He took sin and guilt to the cross. He conquered death by defeating it. He freed us from the clutches of the devil. Yes, the law fulfilled by Jesus is the most precious possession we can have. That new life Jesus has given us is truly Something Great and Glorious!
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for keeping your focus. You accomplished what we found impossible. Thank you! Enable us to live in thanks to you and cherish your precious gift of faith. Amen.
