Your Savior is risen, sing triumphantly!

Rev. Joel Gaertner April 11, 2023

“Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel among you.” (Isaiah 12:6)

Music can have a much greater power and capability to convey a message, especially when compared to speaking or shouting joyfully. Consider moments in life when music has been used to express joy and excitement.

For me, the instance which immediately comes to my mind is in June 2011. Our son’s baseball team won the state championship. I still get choked up thinking about how awesome it was to watch him, and his teammates walk into their school’s gym for a championship celebration as “We Are the Champions” blared from the speakers.

Perhaps you or your family has a similar moment of celebration and the song associated with it still brings back fond memories. Maybe it’s a song from a wedding dance or another special moment which causes you to recall a fond memory.

It is one thing to celebrate earthly joys and special moments.  However, the occasion which we celebrate today is far and away the greatest moment in human history, Jesus Christ rising from death after laying in a tomb for several days.

What song do you look forward to singing on Easter morning?  Do you like “I Know That My Redeemer Lives,” the age-old Christian favorite?  Do you have a hard time singing it because you remember singing it at the funeral of a loved one?

I could share many hymns which will likely be sung today in Christian churches across the world as God’s people express their Easter joy and confidence.  Rather than risk missing your favorite, I’m going to share a newer hymn which helps us joyously sing the confidence which Easter gives us throughout our lives.

Here is a link to “I Will Rise” performed by the Martin Luther College choir.

God bless you as you celebrate your Savior’s resurrection. Express your Easter joy by singing whatever song you enjoy the most.
