The Power of Truth!

Sanctify them by the truth. Your word is truth. John 17:17

“That’s your truth!” Did you ever get that response when talking to someone? That response can be irritating when you are discussing some topic. It has become a way of dismissing a person or the opinion expressed. On this Mother’s Day we often use this day as an opportunity to thank our mothers for the important role they play in society. On a personal level, we thank our mothers personally if possible, or remember them with gratitude. But for the person that doesn’t or didn’t have a good relationship with their mother the expression “That’s your truth!” could feel appropriate.

John 8:32 records Jesus statement, “The truth will set you free.” Here in Jesus’ High Priestly prayer, Jesus prays on our behalf. Two short simple sentences, but a request that we know the Father continues to hear and fulfill. The truth of God’ word does make us holy. The Bible equates Jesus as the Word. He is the One who fulfilled God the Father’s will by his perfect life. Then he took the curse of sin to the cross and paid the debt. His resurrection proves the payment made. Yes, that truth of Jesus is what makes us holy. The Holy Spirit works through the word and gives it God’s power.

“That’s your truth!” No it’s better than that. It’s God’s truth! Jesus continues to pray for you and me. What a blessing to see this prayer of Jesus fulfilled in our lives.

Christian mothers, continue to carry out your important role. Take to heart Jesus’ prayer. Be assured that the Father listened to Jesus’ prayer. The faith he created in your heart proves the Power of Truth!

Lord Jesus, continue to pray and fulfill your prayer. Sanctify us by the truth. Your word is truth. Amen.
