God’s Will for Your Life

Kingsway Senior Living August 18, 2024

John 6:40 – For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.

What is God’s will for my life? Well…that’s THE question, isn’t it? We are all trying to find ourselves, understand our purpose, capture personal fulfillment, and know what our future holds. We all want to know our future but are missing out on the Bible passages where God literally tells us all those things.

The Bible says you are His child, an heir of the King of the world. His will is that you put your faith in Jesus who died to pay your ransom. His plan for your future is that he will raise you from death to glory in heaven forever just like He raised Himself.

The thing is…those answers don’t dazzle us. They SHOULD…but they don’t. We were sort of hoping to find out about that middle part in between today and the final destination in Heaven. Will I get married? Will I have children? Will my business be prosperous and fulfilling for me personally? Will my children be happy and successful? For people who are struggling in life, the questions come from a different place.  Will my child survive this illness? Will I ever find a job? Can I afford to keep my home? God moves beyond the specific answers to these questions and simply tells you to trust Him and promises to be with you. But then he tells you about an astronomically better future with Him in Heaven.

Paul went through a great deal of turmoil when he was brought to faith in Jesus and commissioned to share the news with the world. He writes in Romans 8, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” Did you notice that? Paul does the same thing. He skips the “middle part” and goes right to the end. There is incredible comfort available for you when you take God’s lead and look far beyond the things of this life that stress you out. Rest your worries on God’s lap and soak in what’s coming—eternal peace and joy with God in Heaven. The “middle part” still matters, but God invites you to think further and think bigger.

Dear Father, you can’t wait for us to come home and be with you. It is your will and deepest desire that we trust in you and settle there on our final day. Help us to set our sights higher than the “here and now” and look forward to the eternity you planned for us. Amen.
