Hidden glory revealed!
John 2:11- This, the beginning of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee. He revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him.
Does the player live up to the hype? Every year we hear of professional sports players who have a ton of potential. There are assessments and ranks given to players depending on their abilities and past work. But it will only remain potential until the player proves it on the field. Some do live up to the hype, but others fail and become disappointments. Would Jesus live up to the hype?
Some of Jesus’ disciples heard from John the Baptist that Jesus was the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, that Jesus was more powerful and important than John, that Jesus was the Messiah, the Prophet that Moses said was coming into the world! Talk about hype and potential! However, he did not come from a prestigious family, he did not have a home to call his own, he was dirt poor, and he was not impressive looking. How would he live up to the hype?
It was at a wedding that Jesus would prove that he lived up to the hype. After days of celebration, the bridegroom ran out of wine and the celebration was supposed to continue. The news got to Jesus’ mother Mary and Mary then relayed it to Jesus. Very quietly Jesus told the servant to fill huge jars with water and then take the water to the master of the banquet. It was a strange request, but the servant did as they were told. Then the impossible happened as they were walking to the master of the banquet, the water changed to wine. Not just any wine, but the best wine the master ever tasted.
Only a few people knew what happened…the servant who took the water to the master of the banquet, and Jesus’ disciples. Jesus’ hidden glory was revealed to them. This was the first miraculous sign that the disciples would witness to prove that Jesus fulfilled the hype. These miraculous signs proved to his disciples then and now that he is the Messiah, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. He is worthy of the hype and more so! Jesus has revealed his glory to us and we believe in him for forgiveness and eternal life.
Dear Savior, thank you for revealing your glory and proving the hype. We are grateful that you came as foretold and fulfilled the role for the Lamb of God. Continue to dazzle us with your glory from the cross so that we keep on believing in you! In your name we pray. Amen.
