Jesus gives the most important food!
John 21:12-Jesus said to them, “Come, eat breakfast.” (EHV)
“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” How often have you heard this? The thought is that the food you eat at breakfast will jumpstart your day. If you eat a well-balanced breakfast, it will ensure you have energy for the rest of the day. This concept makes sense. What food do you take in that gets you ready for the day?
One morning the disciples were fishing and had no success. Then they saw a man on shore. He asked them if they had caught any fish. They answered no. The man told them to cast their nets on the other side of the boat. Once they did, they caught 153 fish. Immediately John knew it was the Lord and told Peter. Peter jumped out of the boat and swam to shore. This was the third time they saw Jesus after rising from the dead. Jesus was cooking fish and bread. He told them to come and eat breakfast. But more importantly, Jesus was giving them something better to eat that would get them ready to fish for people.
They were witnesses of Jesus’ resurrection and he was preparing them to go into the world and catch people for the kingdom of God. They needed to be prepared, and Jesus gave himself for them to feast on. By being witnesses, and hearing everything he taught them, they were being filled up with heavenly food. They would need this heavenly food to give to others who sinned and fall short of God’s perfection. They were given that food to share with others.
We have been given the same food to eat as those disciples. No, not the fish and bread, but the resurrected Lord! There is no better way to start our day, then to feast on the forgiveness and life we have been given through the resurrection of Jesus. That same Jesus is alive today and ready to feed you with his heavenly food. May it keep you ready to continue the mission to spread the good news of his kingdom!
Dear Lord above, lead us to feast on the heavenly food of your resurrection and to see the opportunities to spread the good news of your kingdom. In your name we pray. Amen.
