Bloom Where You Are Planted!
“Return to your home and tell how much God has done for you.” Then he went through the whole town proclaiming what Jesus had done for him. Luke 8:39
How’s your garden doing? It’s the time of year in the mid-west where gardens are growing and flowers are in full bloom. That was exactly why the plants were placed there in the first place. In Luke 8 Jesus wasn’t talking about gardening and blooming, but the picture is applicable. Jesus had just healed a man who had gone through a terrible demon possession. Take a look at Luke 8:26-33 to see how Luke described the tragic situation.
The people of the area were afraid of Jesus, so they asked him to leave. The healed man wanted to go along with Jesus.
Jesus said, “Return to your home and tell how much God has done for you.” Jesus had a plan and job for him. He was “to bloom where he was planted.” At times we may wonder why we are here. Applying Jesus’ advice to the healed man, we too have a great purpose. No matter where we are, we can tell how much God has done for us. That is always the reason our Lord has placed us where we are. Maybe our story may not be a dramatic as this formerly demon possessed man, but the miracle of what Jesus has done for us is just as great. He took our sin away and defeated death. Now we have new life.
Follow the example of this healed man. May this be our tag line too: Like the healed man, may we go through wherever we are, proclaiming what Jesus had done for us.
Lord Jesus, help us bloom where we are planted. Amen.
