Remember What He Told You

He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee. – Luke 24:6

I admit it.  I have flown enough times that I naturally tune out the mandatory safety speech before the plane takes off.  Influenced by the statistics that I am far more likely to get in a car accident than a plane incident, I tune it out.  That could never happen to me.

Lately, mishaps on the runway have become more common on the nightly news.  I may be a little more focused on the intro the next time I fly.  If I was ever to be involved in an airplane event that required me to remember the safety features of the Boeing 737 Airbus, I’m sure I would request an immediate recap from the nearby flight attendant.

Jesus told the disciples on several occasions that he would be beaten and murdered in Jerusalem.  But they had the security of Jesus with them every day.  They simply didn’t hear it.  When it did happen, they were devastated and terrified, so they naturally forgot that really important next part, “On the third day, He will rise.”

When we read God’s Word in the Bible and hear a pastor preach a sermon, we are good at hearing what we want to hear and tuning out the things we think don’t apply to us.  Deep down, we know it ALL applies to us.  We need God’s Word to stay on the right path and avoid spiritual dangers.  We also need God’s Word for comfort and anxiety treatment.

Stress and pain WILL happen to you.  Don’t tune out God’s “preflight” safety messages.  The very first words Jesus spoke to His frightened and ashamed disciples after He rose were, “Peace be with you.”  Those words are for us too.  We forget to listen.  We go through the motions of listening to the Word, but we don’t hear it.  We face tense situations and stress and try to figure out our own solutions.

Jesus tells you, “Peace be with you” and “Come to me, you weary, and I will give you rest.”  Like the angel said, “He has risen!  Remember what he told you.”  Whatever you are facing or will face in the future is not too big for God to handle.  He’s got you.  He loves you.  Remember what He told you.
