God’s kingdom is our main concern!

Rev. Patrick Feldhus August 10, 2025

Luke 12:31-“Instead, continue to seek the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added to you.” (EHV)

What is your main concern in life? We tend to concern ourselves with what we are going to eat and drink, where we will live, and to make sure we have clothes to wear. These are very good things to consider, especially if you have other people in your family who need care whether it is a child, grandchild, or elderly loved ones. But our concerns can easily turn to worry. And worry leads to doubts.

Satan is a master of tempting us to doubt God’s love for us in with these concerns. We tend to then over-emphasize these concerns, and they become justifications for us to seek them first and God comes later. How often have you skipped church because of work? Did you use these concerns/worries to justify your actions? What happens is that these concerns and worries take the place of our God. No matter how much we work, concerns and problems always arise, and we get stuck in situations that lead us farther away from the Lord.

Jesus gives us a practical wake up call. Look at the birds. They always find what they need because God is always looking out for them. If he can do that with the birds and other animals, he can do that with you. But you are worth more to the Lord than the birds. Jesus died for you, not the birds.

This is the very reason why we should always put the Lord first and continue to seek out his kingdom. If we have his kingdom of grace, love, and forgiveness then everything else we need automatically comes with it. Jesus is not going to die for you and then let you go without food, drink, house, and clothes. The Lord has brought you into his kingdom by shedding his blood. Everything he has he gives to you. You need not worry, your main concern has been removed. You belong to the Lord forever, and he has promised to take care of all your needs. Keep on seeking his kingdom!

Dear Savior. Help us to seek first your kingdom. Keep us in your kingdom and let us be confident that you will give us everything we need in this life. In your name we pray. Amen.
