Saved by Faith Alone!

Rev. Ed Fredrich October 31, 2025

But now, completely apart from the law, a righteousness from God has been made known. The Law and the Prophets testify to it. Romans 3:21

Recently I was listening to a radio program where the participants were instructed to choose four people that they would place on a “Mount Rushmore.” They were Christians so they agreed beforehand that they would not choose Jesus. It was an interesting topic. The choices expressed brought some very good comments. It also prompted some good discussion between my wife and myself.

You can imagine the various political figures that were suggested. But there were also some scholarly choices like Plato, Shakespeare, Einstein, C.S. Lewis and others. If you could create a Mount Rushmore who would you place on the monument? A family ancestor, a special person or president? Even though this didn’t take place around Reformation time, one of my choices was Martin Luther.

After 508 years of the Reformation, do we still need to remember it? Through that servant, the Lord truly protected and preserved the amazing truth that the Bible and Gospel declares. Whenever man comes up with a way to be saved (if he happens to think about it), it always comes down to something the person has to do to earn it.

“By Scripture Alone, by grace alone, by faith alone, by Christ alone” brings all glory to the only saving God and Lord. What a priceless heritage we have been given. Continue to rejoice in that great news that only God’s Word declares:  But now, completely apart from the law, a righteousness from God has been made known. The Law and the Prophets testify to it.

Lord Jesus, thanks for the eternal gift that you have provided. Keep us in that saving faith and enable us to serve you by proclaiming that great news.  Amen.
