Jesus lives and we see him every day!
John 14:19- “In a little while the world will see me no longer, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.” (EHV)
When was the last time you saw Jesus? I am not referring to a painting or an artist’s rendition of him. If you are like me, then you have never seen Jesus with your eyes. So, this makes what he reveals to us in our verse very confusing. Obviously, the world would not see him since he was about to die and be placed in a tomb. In fact, the last time a group of believers saw him in person was when he was lifted up and a cloud hid him. So, what in the world does Jesus mean with these words, “But you will see me.”?
It is true we are not able to see Jesus with our physical eyes. But it is not with eyes we see him. It is the eyes of faith that we see him. We have the comfort of seeing him by faith even when the world cannot see him. We need this comfort because we are still in this world that mocks the resurrection and those who believe in Jesus. They try to cast doubts on our faith, because they are blind to the truth. It is hard to do battle against the majority who mock and ridicule us for holding on to the resurrection. Our lives would be much easier if we joined the masses. But since they do not see Jesus, they are spiritual blind and dead. Do you want to be blind and dead?
The very fact you see Jesus with the eyes of faith is evidence of the fact that you see and are alive and not spiritually blind and dead. This is reason to hold tight to the hope you have in Jesus who died and rose again. Jesus is still alive and because he lives you too will live. This life you have through Jesus is not going to end in a tomb or a grave. You will continue to live with the Lord forever. Your bodies will come back to life because Jesus lives. Make use of your spiritual sight and keep looking at Jesus, for he lives.
Dear living Lord, help us keep our eyes of faith firmly fixed on you so that we can remain confident of the life you have given us. In your name we pray. Amen.
