Jesus Gives Us Walking Orders!
Therefore go and gather disciples from all nations by baptizing them in[into] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19
Recently I had the privilege of doing a presentation on the Armor of God described in Ephesians 6:10-17. As I was working through the various aspects of the armor, verse 15 came to my attention. We stand “with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace tied to your feet like sandals.” In our text today, Jesus tells us to “go and gather disciples from all nations.” Yes, Jesus told us to “GO!” That wonderful news of being a child of God is meant to be shared. In order for us to do that Jesus puts us on a mission.
The Apostle Paul demonstrates well what it means to “Go.” Look at all the places that Acts records where the Lord directed him. As he was reminding the Ephesians and us, the Lord has equipped us. Think how our Armed Forces uses special footwear for it’s missions. Jesus has also given us some very special “boots.” We go on the mission, supported by the very news we share. What a privilege we have. We go bringing that great news of how everyone can be a part of God’s family. Just as we were adopted by our baptism, we share the Good News of Jesus. That adoption is for all. That gospel is what continues to comfort us as we go. Rejoice in your adoption, and continue to follow Jesus command to bring that Good News to all.
Lord Jesus, thank you for our adoption into your family. Enable us to live our lives following your command to “Go.” Amen.
