The Work of Angels

Rev. Ed Fredrich September 29, 2026

See to it that you do not look down on one of these little ones, because I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father who is in heaven. Matthew 18:10

September 29 of each year is the date the church on earth has chosen to remember a very special creation of God and a wonderful gift that God the Father uses to bless us. September 29 is labeled “St. Michael and All Angels.”

Revelation 12:7-9 states: “There was also a war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought with the dragon. The dragon fought back along with his angels, but he was not strong enough. There was no longer a place for them in heaven. The great dragon was thrown down—the ancient serpent, the one called the Devil and Satan, the one who leads the whole inhabited earth astray—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.” Those verses relate the first time God’s angels very specifically carried out God the Father’s will.

2 Kings 6 relates how God continues to use angels to protect his people. The prophet Elisha was threatened by the Syrian army. They had surrounded the city to capture him. When his servant expressed dismay, Elisha answered, “Don’t be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, open his eyes so that he can see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he saw that the hills were full of horses and chariots of fire, all around Elisha.

As Jesus illustrates in this verse, they still are performing their duties. God uses his angels for the good of his people. This protection is not just for the important and powerful people on earth, but even for children.

Lord, thank you for your protection and the angels you have made.  Amen.
