Day 7 of Lent: Worn out. Exhausted. Frustrated.
Worn out. Exhausted. Frustrated.
Do any of those describe you and the way you feel? It could be physically, emotionally or spiritually. Yes, we all have times when we feel any one of, if not all three of those and in any of the three areas – physically, emotionally or spiritually. We live in a society where it seems like we are always going 100 MPH and the expectations are extremely high. But there is something we need to remember – Your value to God is not in your doing, but your being. Remember that God tells us that we are his temples and we are supposed to take care of the temple that he has given us.
Our verse for today reminds us not to give up on Rest – physically, emotionally or spiritually. In Matthew 11:29 Jesus invites us: “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
In that verse Jesus primarily speaks about find rest and refreshment for our souls in his Word and in the Gospel. But it is a reminder that we are not taking care of our temple (our body) if we do not regularly give it rest – physically, emotionally or spiritually.
While each of us has responsibilities and expectations, make sure that you don’t give up on finding true and lasting rest in Jesus!
