Day 4 of Lent: What are your hopes and dreams?
What are your hopes and dreams?
What do you think about when you hear a question like that? Isn’t hope usually considered a wishful idea that we would like to have, but likely realize that you won’t get or it isn’t realistic.
Our verse for today helps us see why we don’t want to give up on hope – hope in God. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1). The writer to the Hebrews makes it clear that hope based in God is much more than wishful thinking, but a sure confidence. This does not mean that once we base our hope in God that we will have all our hopes and dreams fulfilled. What it does mean for us is that can be 100% confident in the hopes and promises which God gives us in the Bible.
Maybe you noticed that our verse for today pulls in the devotion from yesterday and the matter of faith. There is an inseparable connection between hope and faith. Faith is the solid foundation which hopes are based on and founded in. And that faith is rooted in an almighty God who gave us the greatest hope we need – heaven.
The reason people often lose hope is because they have a “pie in the sky”, unrealistic view of hopes. Make your hopes real and put your hope in God!
