“Why?” unveiled
“Whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.” (2 Corinthians 3:16)
“Why?”
“I just can’t understand how that could happen.”
There is no denying there are situations and times in our lives when we are confused or troubled at what is happening and even why it is happening.
Our Bible verse for this week gives an insight into understanding the “why.” This does not necessarily mean that all our questions will be answered, but it helps us deal with those confusing and difficult situations and removes the “veil.”
You will notice our verse for this week clearly describes the “why” or lack of understanding is often due to the fact that we have a “veil” over our eyes. This is not a literal veil, but rather the idea of a “veil” describes a lack of understanding or clearly seeing things.
This “veil” has to do with the fact that we are stumbling around in the dark trying to figure things out on our own and not living with faith and trust that God has everything in control. Paul clearly tells us “when anyone turns to the Lord.”We probably don’t want to admit it or hear it that far too often in our lives we turn away from God and think that we can go it on our own or know better how to do things.
This “turning to the Lord” first of all includes admitting our sinful stubbornness and confessing our sin. Then we need to turn to God in humble trust and ask and know that all our sins have been wiped away and forgiven in Jesus. Then and only then can we turn to God in simple, humble trust and start to realize and understand that we need to fully rely on him. This does not assure that all our “whys” will be answered or that we will clearly know or see the path of our life. What is does do is give us the trust that we know that God has our best interest in mind. He clearly tells us “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.” (Romans 8:28). Knowing and trusting that God loves us gives us that love for him and the ability to place everything, whether large or small, into his hands and know that he will hold us in his hands and bring us through.
Our “why?”s will only be fully answered when we get to heaven. Let our verse for this week give you guidance on removing the veil and learning to trust God and rely on his grace and love!
