Dozing off in your spiritual life? Wake up!
“The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.” (Romans 13:11)
It is one thing to doze off while watching TV, after mowing the lawn or while taking a break from remodeling the house.
It is something else to “doze off” in your spiritual life or to take a break from making your faith a
priority. Some people talk about how they will make time for God later in their life. They’re young and they need to enjoy life; they’ll have time for God when they’re older. Have you ever noticed that when a person dies “much too soon” or is taken “before their time” that the situation is often a wake-up call for people to rethink putting off their spiritual priorities?
In this time of the year when people are preparing for Christmas, and especially when Christians are getting ready to celebrate Christmas as the first coming of Jesus, the Christian Church reminds us to always be ready for Jesus’ second coming.
That is the point of our Bible verse for this week: “Be ready all the time, because you never know when Jesus will come back or when you yourself might be called home to heaven.”
TLHA serves many people who are often close to being called home to heaven as well as serving their families. We are blessed to have an environment where we can freely talk to people and their families about the confidence and hope of heaven. As we have this opportunity, let’s also make sure we have our own house in order and don’t need to be given a wake-up call!
