Top 10 ways to reduce caregiver stress
The emotional and physical demands of caregiving can be tough to handle and that’s why it is so important to take advantage of help available to you. As a caregiver, remember that if you aren’t willing to take care of yourself, you will not be able to care for others.
Our team members at Heritage Homes share their insight on ways to preserve your own health and well-being as a caregiver.
10) Take time for yourself! Have a hobby where you get out of the house.
9) Treat each day as a “new day”; we all have good and bad days.
8) Ask for help. Don’t be afraid to ask family and friends for hel
p. Be prepared with a list of ways they can help.
7) Set health goals. Find time to be physically active, try to have a healthy diet and stay hydrated.
6) Maintain a “happy moments” journal where you can document all of the good things that happen.
5) Don’t give in to guilt. Feeling guilty is normal, but understand no one is perfect.
4) Join a support group. A support group can be a great source of encouragement and advice.
3) See your doctor regularly. Get your recommended immunizations and screenings.
2) Have a conversation with your pastor or chaplain.
1) Meditate on a special Bible passage like Ephesians 4:32.
