The Lutheran Home Association Recognizes Direct Support Professionals Week

Marketing September 11, 2015

BELLE PLAINE, MINN. September 11, 2015 — The Lutheran Home Association (TLHA) would like to honor our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) at Hope Residence in Belle Plaine, Minn. during Direct Support Professionals Week, September 13-19, 2015. TLHA DSPs assists individuals with disabilities in leading a self-directed life and contributing to the community. This includes helping with activities of daily living, encouraging attitudes and behaviors, teaching residents to be more independent, taking residents out in the community or to a medical appointment, and assisting with meals, transfers, therapy exercises and daily cares.  They focus on maintaining quality and Christian care for the residents while achieving our ministry’s vision to share eternal hope, provide hope and inspire hope.  Direct Support Professionals Week recognizes the contributions DSPs make for individual residents, disability housing facilities and communities.

“As a manager of one of Hope’s living areas, I couldn’t be more proud of the people working at Hope Residence. When I come into my area each day, my heart is warmed by the love, kindness, and patience exuded by our team in their care of the residents. We are so lucky to have such wonderful team members who live out the mission of The Lutheran Home Association.”

A fellow staff member at Hope shares, “They give so much to those who live here.  Every day I observe special moments between the residents and the DSPs, and it gives me a great feeling of comfort knowing they truly care about each and every person.  It takes a special individual to work with individuals with developmental disabilities — requiring patience, love, compassion and a genuine concern for others.  It amazes me how the DSPs are able to communicate with the residents who have communication barriers and how well they know what their needs are.”

Thank you to all the DSPs for their dedication to Hope Residence and wish them a happy National Direct Support Professionals Week! They are greatly appreciated and truly make a difference in the lives of everyone who makes Hope their home.
