Hope residents enjoy fishing on Cedar Lake
Fishing is something that you just do in Minnesota. The Let’s Go Fishing organization works to make sure everyone is able to spend a day on the lake. The organization works with seniors, veterans, people with disabilities and youth. Hope residents have gone fishing twice this summer and have three more trips planned.
On each trip, four Hope residents along with two team members spend the day fishing on a pontoon on Cedar Lake near New Prague.
Volunteers, referred to as “Captains” and “Deck Hands” help to bait the hooks and take fish off for everyone.
During the first trip, every Hope resident caught a fish.
“All the fish were too small to keep but we had a great time,” said Dale, Hope resident.
On the second trip, three of the four Hope residents had caught a fish.
“I don’t really care if I catch any fish, it is fun to go on the boat too,” said Hope resident Harold.
“Oh well, that’s fishing for you, maybe next time,” added Hope resident Ramona.
Let’s Go Fishing was founded in 2002 in Willmar, Minn. With the help of volunteers, the organization brings people fishing six days a week from May to September.
In the last fiscal year, volunteers gave more than 15,000 hours to the ministries of health care and housing through The Lutheran Home Association care communities. Join a fun team of generous people: Become a volunteer! Visit www.tlha.org to learn more.
