Marine Corps veteran joins team at Kingsway
Grace Miner knew at age 17 she wanted to join the United State Marine Corps. She became interested in joining the armed forces due to a friend who was joining the United States Air Force.

“Seeing how excited he was about the military and all the opportunities he was going to have,” she explained, “It got me thinking about it and I started doing more research.”
Grace, a Life Enrichment Coordinator at Kingsway Retirement Living in Belle Plaine, Minn., served for more than three years in the Marine Corps.
Following high school graduation, she attended boot camp, combat training and attended a school to study intelligence for the Marine Corps.
Following school, Grace received orders and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in California. She worked there for a year and a half before she moved an hour south to a base in San Diego. There Grace learned she would be required to separate from the Marine Corps due to an injury; she no longer met the physical standards required of all Marine Corps members.
Returning home to Belle Plaine, Grace was able to temporality fill in at Kingsway to save money while making a plan for her future.
“I plan the resident activities and execute them,” Grace explained, “I am enjoying the role. It’s a lot of planning and very detail orientated.”
It worked out perfectly, as Grace made plans to attend Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn., beginning in February. While she will no longer be full time at Kingsway, she plans to remain on call as she will continue to reside in Belle Plaine.
Grace plans to study for two years at Gustavus to complete her Bachelor degree and continue on to receive her Master’s degree in genetic counseling.
