Hope residents spend summer morning on the lake

Residents from Hope Residence were able to enjoy a morning on the lake on Thursday during the month of July. Through the Let’s Go Fishing organization of Scott County, residents spend time fishing on Cedar Lake, near New Prague.

Pictured is Hope resident Ramona K., 85., with a Let’s Go Fishing guide on Cedar Lake.

“Cedar Lake is the perfect lake to take kids, special needs people or the elderly because the little fish are always biting,” said Deb Wirt, Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator.

Several fish were caught including a record catch for Hope resident Ramona K., who is 85. With a little help reeling it in, Ramona landed a 32 inch Tiger Muskie.

News of the big catch quickly spread around the Hope facility.

“It was before they even got back. One of the team members sent me the photo, so the excitement was here before they got here,” Wirt explained.

Let’s Go Fishing was founded in 2002 in Willmar, Minn. With the help of volunteers, the organization brings people fishing six days a week from May to September.  The mission of the organization is to enrich the lives of individuals through fishing and boating excursions that strengthen communities, build relationships and create memories.

In the last fiscal year, volunteers gave more than 1,700 hours to the ministries of health care and housing on The Lutheran Home Belle Plaine campus. Join a fun team of generous people: Become a volunteer!  Visit www.tlha.org/services/volunteer to learn more.
