Turning Their Lives into a Lasting Legacy
Working on the farm from sun up to sun down was how Harold and Lorraine Olson lived their life together, and they loved every day of it.
Harold and Lorraine are members of TLHA’s Century Club, where they donate one hundred dollars a year to the TLHA Foundation and in return receive updates on its ministry and mission. They also became volunteers of TLHA’s ministry when a friend from church invited them to help with the Jesus Cares Ministries (JCM) program at their church, which had a huge impact on them.
“I was so impressed to see the joyful faces of the people with disabilities as the Holy Spirit entered their hearts through the teaching and singing of God’s Word,” said Lorraine. “The program is open to people, families and caregivers of all faiths and churches, so everyone feels welcome.”
The Olsons always knew they wanted to share the blessings they’d received throughout their lives with others, so they talked about how they could make a difference in the lives of people with special needs.
Harold had been a long-time collector of antique tractors, plows and farm toys, and he was excited to find out he could auction them off and have all the proceeds go toward their own long-term care needs, the needs of their grandchildren as well as the needs of JCM and other charities they were a part of.
With the help of TLHA, the Harold and Lorraine Olson Charitable Remainder Unitrust (CRUT) was created and funded by the auction proceeds from what they donated to TLHA. Instead of nearly half of the value from their donated assets going towards taxes, that money will now take care of their family and share Jesus with people who have developmental disabilities, just like they wanted!
