You won’t go wrong following this advice!

Rev. Roger Woller January 17, 2023

Therefore, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in him, by being rooted and built up in him, and strengthened in the faith just as you were taught, while you overflow in faith with thanksgiving. (Colossians 2:6-7)

The words from Colossians give us very good advice.

When someone shares advice with us, we have probably asked for it and need it. When receiving advice, we want to listen, but it can depend on who is sharing advice and if we respect them.

Every one of us needs to listen to and follow the advice given to us in the text from Colossians. These are inspired words from God. The advice is for our own good.

The key word is “continue.” Continue in what was started in your spiritual life at the time of your baptism. You became of child of God by faith in Jesus Christ. You grew in that faith as you listened to God’s Word and were confirmed in the faith.

It is not easy to continue to be faithful to Jesus. Sin wants us to go different directions than to follow our Lord Jesus Christ. Sin wants us to take the wide road that leads away from our Jesus.

When things go wrong in our life, we curse God. When we want something we should not have, we covet or steal it. When we have a hard time coping with life, we medicate ourselves with alcohol or drugs. All these sins do is lead us away from our Lord Jesus.

As we continue to walk in Jesus, we realize that He never leaves us. The more we continue to walk in Jesus the more we become rooted and built up in him. The more our faith is strengthened. The more our faith overflows with thanksgiving.

Don’t just take my word for it. This is God’s promise to you when you continue to walk in Jesus. God does not change his promises nor go back on his Word.

Just do it, “continue in Jesus.” Read your Bible. Go and worship with your fellow believers. Go to Bible class. Read devotions. Continue to walk with Jesus every day of your life.

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, I am always tempted to follow my sinful nature, it leads me astray and away from my walk with you.  Help me to continue in your Word so that I will always know the truth and the truth will set me free. Amen.
