All the proof you need!
John 20:31 “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (EHV)
Jesus came to Thomas personally in proof of life. Don’t you get a little jealous? If he was willing to give Thomas proof of the resurrection to life, why does he not do that for us? Think about how many more would believe, if only he would appear to people in the same way! Thomas demanded proof and he got the proof. But when we demand proof like that, we can allow sin to creep just like Thomas, which could cause us to lose life. How can this be? There are many who struggle with this and they easily fall prey to their sinful hearts. We too can easily become disenchanted and annoyed and begin to distance ourselves from Jesus. We demand proof and he does not give what we want!
But isn’t that far from the truth?! He gives us better proof than he gave to Thomas! “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” This is us! We have not seen and yet we believe that Jesus is alive. Jesus said that this is a special blessing that those disciples and even Thomas did not have, but we do! And this special blessing brings peace, forgiveness, and life. Jesus proves this to us over and over. And we have constant access to this proof! If you want proof of the life, you have it… “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”
God’s Word is the proof and power to give life to all who believe in Jesus. We do not need the physical proof to determine whether we have life or not, Jesus and his word is all we need. So when doubts creep into your hearts, turn to the written word, for all of God’s Word is about Jesus and giving us life through his Son!
Dear risen Lord, please forgive us for doubting your resurrection and the life that you grant to us. Help us listen and hold on to the words you have given us. Strengthen our faith so that we have life in your name alone. Amen!
