Day 10 of Lent: Silence
Our verse for today is a perfect follow up to the one from yesterday. If it is good to listen carefully, sometimes it is even better to be silent and simply reflect on things or ponder what you’ve heard or what it going on.
Psalm 46:10 reminds us “Be still, and know that I am God”. It may be hard to admit, but isn’t the reason that we sometimes have a hard time being still and being silent because we are too “busy” thinking and acting in a way like we have to help God solve the problems of our life, much less the problems of the universe?
A way that we could perhaps restate our verse for today is “Be still and let God be God”. When you take into consideration what we have heard about patience and listening the last few days, this fits right in. So often the reason we are not still or won’t listen is because we get impatient – we don’t like that things aren’t happening on our time schedule or in the way we want (think).
Step back for a moment and take a 30,000 ft. view of your life and you quickly realize how God has been God and has accomplished things in ways far greater than we could ask or imagine. Things likely did not always happen in the way or on the time schedule you wanted, but as you look at them now you realize God knows and always acts in the best way.
Don’t give up on silence. Be still and reflect on your life and most importantly God’s blessings and working in your life!
