Day 12 of Lent: Persistence

Rev. Joel Gaertner March 19, 2019

Persistence is one of those words or concepts which can be perceived as both good and not so good. If you are persistent in working on something, that is a very wonderful thing.  However, if you are persistent in making your point or sharing a message, you might be thought of as bugging people.

When it comes to this whole subject and our relationship with God, he actually urges us to be persistent in asking him. Good things come to those who wait and are persistent with God.  In Luke 18:7 Jesus tells us “And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?”.  This verse comes from a chapter which begins this way “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.”

Just like the young child who will not stop asking their parents for something, God actually encourages us to keep on asking him and even crying out to him with our requests and issues as we have the wonderful privilege to talk to our heavenly Father in prayer.

There is one thing to remember on this subject.  Just because we are persistent, it does not necessarily mean that we will get everything we ask for from God.  We still have to keep this all in the perspective of understanding that God knows what is best for us and will give us what he knows we need in the time he knows is best.

Nevertheless, don’t give up on being persistent in your requests to God!
