Day 33 of Lent: Compliments
How well do you handle compliments? How well do you do at handing out compliments? Many people shy away from receiving compliments and would at the same time admit that they don’t hand out nearly enough compliments to others.
Our verse for today will undoubtedly cause you to look at compliments in a whole new way – “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.” (Colossians 3:16).
When was the last time you used some words from a hymn or a Bible verse to encourage or compliment someone? I am guessing that for many of us that is a concept that we’ve never thought of. Maybe we’ve never used a hymn or Bible verse as a compliment because maybe we felt a little uncomfortable or unsuited to do that.
There are all sorts of lists which have Bible verses for a wide variety of topics. You could also Google hymn verses or Christian lyrics on various subjects. This whole area may seem a little awkward or uncomfortable at first, but once you start, you’ll see that it is actually a really neat way to compliment someone, because you are acknowledging the gifts or purpose which God gave them.
On that whole subject of receiving compliments, our devotion tomorrow will help you better understand that it is okay and even right to receive compliments when you understand that they are simply acknowledging God’s work and purpose in your life.
With that said, don’t give up on giving or receiving compliments, especially Godly ones!
