Devoted to Serve the Master!
“No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.” (Luke 16:13)

Loyalty is something that is hard to come by these days. The closest thing we have to true loyalty is in sports. Most people will stand by their sports team whether they are doing well or not. If a fan is not loyal to his or her team, we call them fair-weather fans. True fans stick with the team no matter what happens.
In today’s verse, Jesus talks about loyalty and devotion. A servant becomes loyal and devoted to his master that will rival no other. This servant will remain faithfully devoted to his master and hate the thought of having any other master. The servant will be careful to follow his beloved master and not become distracted by anyone else, lest it takes the place of the loved master.
Jesus reminds us that we belong to God. He is our true master who purchased us with the blood of his eternal Son. However, Satan will try everything to get us to love another master, so we end up hating our true master.
Our sinful hearts are ready to switch our loyalty and devotion to money and possessions. We have the impression that they can take care of us. Satan uses this lie to trap us with a disastrous outcome. Money and possessions cannot save you from sin, death, and Hell.
Only one Master has already destroyed sin, death, and Hell. Our God sent his Son to destroy them and give us the victory. He allows us to be a beloved servant in his kingdom. He created a loyal devoted heart in us.
The more we hear about the payment God made for us to be his, the more we will want to serve only him. We will use our money, possessions, and everything else to serve our true and only Master! We will continue to serve our heavenly Master because he already served us his Son!
Prayer: Dear Master in heaven, please forgive us for the times we wavered in our service to you. Turn our hearts back to you. We will want to devote all our time, treasure, and talents to serve you. In his name we pray! Amen!
