Devotion: Value every relationship

Rev. Kenley Mann March 16, 2020

In a far-off land the LORD will manifest himself to them. He will say to them, “I have loved you with an everlasting love. That is why I have continued to be faithful to you. (Jeremiah 31:3)

God declares “I have an everlasting love for you.”  Why is it at a wedding, we bring death into it? The vows include the words “till death us do part.”

There’s a lovely couple, they are enjoying their day and we stick death in there. Why?  Every relationship in this world has a beginning, a middle and an end.

Value every relationship God has given you.  Never take it for granted.   Love to the best of your ability as God works in you.

It is different with God.  Jesus Christ comes, and he pledges to you a love that will never end.  He does not say he will love us “till death us do part.”

He says, “I will love you in life, and I will love you through death, and I will love you with an everlasting life in life after death.”  Why?  “Because God is love.” (I John 4:8)

The Father loves the Son perfectly.  Twice, like bookends, we heard these words from the Father to Jesus.

“This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased,” at the beginning of the Epiphany Season and at its end.

Consider why these words bring us such great joy.  When we were brought to faith, we were put into the Son.  We are joined to his body when we join Him in in the wedding feast that is Holy Communion.

God loves us, with a love that is the beginning for us without end. He loves us with an everlasting love.

See in this truth from God Jesus dying on the cross for you in love and then rising again from the grave to live to make that promise true.
