Don’t Give Up!
Will not God give justice to his chosen ones, who are crying out to him day and night? Will he put off helping them? Luke 18:7
Our verse today was spoken by Jesus in connection with the parable he told about a persistent widow. She was dealing with an unjust judge, who refused to give her justice, just because he could. But because she remained persistent and would not give up until she got justice, he finally gave in. He gave her the justice she had coming just to get rid of her.
With the unjust judge as the comparison, Jesus asked these questions. Will not God give justice to his chosen ones, who are crying out to him day and night? Will he put off helping them? God is not unjust. If honest, we have to admit that we don’t deserve anything but judgement from God because of our sins. But look at what Jesus calls us. He says we are God’s “chosen ones.” We know this is true because of what Jesus, our Brother, has done for us. He took our sin. He gave us his exalted relationship and made God our Father.
Can we pray too much? Not at all! In fact God had Paul encourage us to pray continually in 1 Thessalonians 5:17.
I know there were times when it looked like God was imitating the unjust judge in my life. But as time went on, God led me to see how he was answering me all the time. So listen to Jesus’ encouragement. We know God loves us. He already has given us Jesus. So don’t give up!
Lord Jesus, thanks for the exalted position you have given us as God’s chosen ones. Help us to keep coming to our Father in confident trust. Amen.
