Experience grace, love, and fellowship.

Rev. Roger Woller June 8, 2020

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. (2 Corinthians 13: 14)

If this were the last day you would see or talk to one of your loved ones, what would you say? If you had a gift to give to him or her, what would that be?

None of us wants to think of saying our final goodbye to someone who is very special to us; spouse, child, brother, sister, or best friend(s).

Several weeks ago, I said goodbye to my only brother. Because of the separation resulting from COVID-19, I was not able to see him before he died. I did talk to him on the phone. Although he was unable to talk to me, I was able to say goodbye to him before he died.

If I could talk to him one more time in this life, I would say to him what the Apostle Paul says in his farewell words to the Corinthian congregation. May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

  • My comfort is that my brother knew the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • He knew the love of God the Father.
  • He was in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.

My brother no long lives in faith but rather is in Heaven in the presence of Jesus, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit. He is experiencing the Grace, Love, and Fellowship of God. There is no better gift than that.

That is what we as chaplains for The Lutheran Home want for you, my dear friend. This is the gift that surpasses all understanding. This gift is for now and for all eternity.

We cannot earn this gift by ourselves. Our sins separate us from God. Because of our sins, we don’t deserve heaven. That is why God sent his only Son, Jesus, to live, die, and rise again in our place. Jesus earned the gift of forgiveness of sins, life everlasting for you and me. That is the Gospel message we want to share with you.

If this is the last time in your life here on Earth and you are reading these words, this is my gift to you: May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you.

Prayer: Dear Father in heaven, open my ears to hear and my heart to believe the grace of my Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
