Full and Free Forgiveness!
Amen I tell you: Everything will be forgiven people, their sins and whatever blasphemies they may speak. Mark 3:28
In this chapter Mark is recording a portion of a day in Jesus’ life. So many people kept coming to Jesus that he wasn’t even able to eat. In verse 21 we read, “When his own people heard this, they went out to take control of him, because they were saying, ‘He is out of his mind.’” To add to this, the experts in the law that had come from Jerusalem said, “He is possessed by Beelzebub,” and “He drives out demons by the ruler of demons.”
While Jesus was responding to this, he makes this amazing statement: “Everything will be forgiven people, their sins and whatever blasphemies they may speak.” The misguided friends and family of Jesus were really opposing God’s will. And Jesus’ enemies were openly accusing Jesus of being out to harm, in league with the devil.
Both sides were wrong, but look what Jesus assures. Amazing grace at its best. Everything will be forgiven! Since the fall into sin, God’s judgement is true, all people fall short, and all people deserve God’s punishment. But Jesus came to change that. Since he came as our brother, he led the perfect life. He also paid the price. A work of the devil? Absolutely not! It is the greatest expression of God’s amazing love. Jesus paid the price.
The result is the amazing truth that Jesus declares. There is full and free forgiveness for everyone. All sins are paid for by Jesus. So, no matter what sin bothers your conscience, be assured by Jesus’ declaration. “Everything will be forgiven people, their sins and whatever blasphemies they may speak.” We are truly forgiven.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for your perfect life on our behalf and the full and free payment that you made. Continue to comfort us with your amazing love. Amen.
