Jesus’ name is all we need!
Acts 4:12- “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to people by which we must be saved.” (EHV)
Have you ever looked your name up on the internet? Every name usually has a meaning. Patrick means noble in Latin. It is interesting to see what your name means and to see if it fits your personality. In the bible, God gave names that fit the person to whom he gave it. Adam means mankind. Eve means living. Abraham means father of many. With all of these names with meaning behind them, it makes perfect sense that God would choose a name for himself that had significant meaning to it. As we enter this New Year, let us begin by celebrating the name Jesus, because there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to people by which we much be saved
Peter makes it clear why Jesus is a fitting name for our Savior. The name Jesus means, the LORD saves. This is the very reason why Jesus was given his name. In the gospel of Matthew chapter 2 verses 20, 21, we are told, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Jesus, The Lord saves, will save his people from their sins! Jesus only had one purpose in his coming, to save people from sin.
We are not in charge of saving ourselves. The job fell to Jesus. It was written into his name. Jesus, the LORD saves, is the only one capable of saving sinners. “12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” What a name! And God has revealed this name for our comfort. And we have the honor of having that name on our lips. The name Jesus says it all! Jesus is and will always be the only one who can save us. As 2026 begins, hold onto the most important name that is above all names, for it is the only name you need!
Dear Jesus. Thank you for fulfilling your name and saving us from our sins. Help us carry your name with us everywhere we go this new year. In your name we pray. Amen!
