Jesus relieves our fears!
Mark 6:50 – They all saw him and were terrified. Immediately he spoke with them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.”
Have you ever witnessed the impossible or something beyond explanation? There are videos online that are dedicated to these impossible things that make people scratch their heads. But for some, these impossible beyond explanation things are terrifying. The disciples saw something beyond explanation and humanly speaking impossible. They were in the middle of the Sea of Galilee and they saw Jesus walking on the water. The majority of the disciples were fishermen who fished that very lake, but each one of them would never have seen a human being literally walking on the water as if it was dry land. When fear gripped their hearts, Jesus calls out to them, “Take courage. It is I. Do not be afraid!”
Are there any other words a person can hear that calms the fear in our heart? What fear are you dealing with? Maybe you are dealing with the impossible. Are you undergoing treatments for cancer that only prolongs the inevitable? Are you in a relationship that is toxic that seems to be coming to an end? Is your body aging and waltzing closer to death? When fear grips our hearts, listen again to the Savior’s voice, “Take courage. It is I. Do not be afraid!”
Why does his voice sooth our fears in the face of the impossible? Jesus has finished the impossible. Just as he had power to walk on water, so he has the power to work out the impossible for your good. But how can cancer, toxic relationships, and aging bodies that inch closer to death work out for our good? It keeps us going back to the Savior who walked his way to the cross and out of the empty tomb to assure you that you are forgiven and have eternal life. When you are dealing with the impossible and you are filled with fear, take courage, your Savior died and rose from the dead and your place in heaven is secured!
Dear Lord, help us listen to your soothing voice when we are facing the impossible and our hearts melt with fear. Let us trust your word and take courage in you! In your name we pray, Amen!
