Let His Light Shine Through you this Christmas
“Let there be light!” What’s the first thing God created? Light. And it still changes everything. It is essential for the life of everything God created afterwards. The light of the Sun provides warmth, vision, and sustenance. Light is a symbol of hope and understanding. We need light for our eyes, our bodies, and especially our hearts.
John 1:4 – In Him was life and that life was the light of men. The language of John 1 is an echo of the language in Genesis 1. John openly weaves Jesus, the Son of God into the narrative of creation as an active participant in creation and in the strong picture of Jesus as the ultimate light. Just as creation began with light, the Christmas story bursts with light too.
When the light of Jesus turns on in your head, you have understanding –“I get it.” When the light of Jesus turns on in your heart, that’s faith – “He’s got me.” The shepherds both understood and believed the powerful and light-filled message of the angel choir. “Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you.” And John confirms their message…”in Him is life.”
Christmas celebrates Jesus—the Light of all lights. He came to illuminate the path to heaven and to fill us with the warmth of His love and forgiveness. He gave His life to give us life, so truly, in Him is life. We need the SON more than we need the Sun. May God fill your hearts with the life-giving light of Jesus. This Christmas, let His light shine through you—share His love with someone who needs hope. Merry Christmas!
Dear Jesus, You made a choice to become just like me to help me understand you. Thank you for being my light to show me the way to the Heaven you earned for me. Thank you for being the light in my heart that cuts through the darkness and replaces it with love and forgiveness. Let my life reflect your light to others that you may touch them also. In Your saving name I pray, Amen.
