Listen to the Son!
“Just then, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him.” (Matthew 17:5b)

One of the most frustrating things for parents is when children do not listen. It seems that children never grow out of it either. You can tell your child not to touch the stove because it is hot, and they will not listen. You can tell your adult children to set up payments for their car, but they still do not listen. You ever wonder how God must feel?
Every day God has spoken to us through his Word, but how well do we listen. Somedays we listen but other days not so much. The sad part about it, God is speaking eternal truths to us that will impact our lives here on earth and our lives in eternity. What happens if we do not listen to our God…the flames of hell will engulf us. We would only have ourselves to blame. I cannot help but think about how disappointed God must be when I do not listen to him. What about you? Could he say he is pleased with everything you have done? Could he say he is pleased with how well you listened to him?
At Jesus’ transfiguration, we are given a glimpse into the eternal relationship of the Father and the Son. Jesus is the only human being that listened to his Father and did everything perfectly. The Father confirmed it with his own voice from heaven. This is good news for those who do not listen. Jesus followed his Father’s will perfectly to save all of us from our sins. Listen to Jesus when he said after his transfiguration, “The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill him, but on the third day he will be raised.” (Matthew 17:22-23) God the Father reveals the purpose of his Son. Therefore, he emphatically tells us to listen to Jesus. He has the words of eternal life.
Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, thank you for showing us your Son’s glory. Help us hang on to every word of your Son which is recorded in all the Scriptures. Let his glory be our glory! In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen!
