One job – and he did it perfectly

Marketing March 29, 2018

“You had one job” is a popular phrase today. The implication is that a person had one responsibility and they couldn’t finish it.

Good Friday

We could rightly say this about Jesus, “You had one job.” It would not be said in a sarcastic or demeaning way, but from a heart filled with awe and gratitude.

In Philippians 2:8, the Apostle Paul reminds us “Jesus became obedient to death even death on a cross.”

Okay, it would probably be better to say that Jesus had two jobs. Neither of them were easy. Jesus had to live a perfect life during his time on this earth to make up for all the times we fail miserably at being perfect.

However, Jesus had another job to do. This was far more difficult. We can say humbly thank Jesus, as he had one job to do and he did it in my place. Jesus lived a perfect life to make up for all the times we fail to be perfect. He also needed to pay for all the sins we’ve committed when we’ve failed to be perfect.

The words from Philippians 2:8 are all about this. When Paul tells us “Jesus became obedient to death,” he is helping us remember that Jesus didn’t have to die. But he wanted to out of love for every single one of us.

That is why we call today “Good” Friday. It’s not good because Jesus had to die to pay for our sins.  However, it is good because he died to pay for our sins and they are forgiven. Now, we have a clean slate before God and a place in heaven.

The devil will always try to get you to doubt that what Jesus did on that first Good Friday was enough to cover all your sins.  Never doubt!  Never question!  Have complete confidence!  It is called Good Friday because of the wonderful fact that Jesus had one job to do and he completed it perfectly with no room for any questions or doubts.

God bless you this Good Friday as you contemplate what Jesus did to pay for your sins and win your salvation in heaven!
