Sight for the Blind!
Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, in order that those who do not see will see, and those who do see will become blind.” John 9:39
There was quite a discussion one Sabbath in Jerusalem. A man who had been born blind now could see! No one was more surprised than the blind man. There he was. He heard a group of men who asked someone why he was blind. They guessed that either he or his parents had sinned. After stating that he was “the Light of the World”, the man made some mud and put in the man’s eyes and sent him to “wash in the pool of Siloam.”
We can well imagine what his reactions were when the man saw for the very first time. Even the crowd then responds. The blind beggar can now see. How did this happen? Who could do something like that?
Jewish leaders began investigating the incident. The man couldn’t answer who had done it. Remember he didn’t see Jesus when he put the mud on his eyes. Jesus didn’t accompany him to the pool. He just washed and saw! He knew this man had to have come from God.
As the investigation continues, Jesus found the man who had been thrown out of the synagogue. When Jesus asked him if he believed in the Son of God, the man asked who he was. Jesus identifies himself and the man responds in faith.
The investigators of this event weren’t easily convinced. Think about it: here is a man who was blind from birth who can now see. Even an event like this was not enough for Jesus’ detractors to acknowledge him, not to mention believe in him. Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, in order that those who do not see will see, and those who do see will become blind.”
How is your eyesight?
Lord Jesus, continue to open my eyes so that I always see you, my Savior. Amen.
