The glory of the Christ is given to you!

Rev. Patrick Feldhus June 15, 2025

John 16:14 & 15-He (The Holy Spirit) will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. Everything the Father has is mine.” (EHV)

What is the most important item you have inherited? For some, it is wealth or a family heirloom. For others, it might be land. But it usually takes a death to receive an inheritance. Jesus makes a grand statement about his glorious inheritance. The Holy Spirit will take what belongs to the Son which the Father gave him and give it to his disciples.

So, what could we possible inherit from Jesus? He had no riches. He had no home. He had no land. He had no family heirloom. He had something that we could never find. Everything that belongs to the Father was given to his Son. This is what the Spirit makes known to us. It is God’s image, his perfect righteousness. Jesus is the embodiment of God’s image. The very image that was lost in the Garden of Eden. This image of perfect holiness and glory cannot be earned or found on our own. It must be given to us. This is our inheritance that is declared to us by the Spirit!

But the only way for us to inherit Jesus’ image, his perfect righteousness, is if he died! That is exactly what he did. The morning after saying these words, he gave up his life to give us back the image of God in perfect holiness and righteousness. This brings us into the family of God. You now have the glory of the Son covering you. This ensures your place in the heavenly kingdom. Even if you lose everything in this world, you still possess the glory of Christ’s image as your own. All that was given to the Son is now given to you. How can you be certain? Our Triune God has made this a reality for all of us. We now live our lives as inheritors of our God’s glory!

Dear Triune God, continue to bless us with the glory of Christ’s image. Let us be satisfied with his glory as we await his glorious return. In his name we pray! Amen!
