Walk toward the Light!
Isaiah 60:3 Nations will walk to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn. (EHV)
My family and I were fortunate to visit Wind Cave National Park in Custer State Park, SD. It was the first time I have ever been in a deep cave. I will never forget the complete darkness that I experienced when they turned off all the lights. No matter how long we remained in the darkness, our eyes could never get used to it. The absence of light is terrifying. I was grateful that they turned on the light that allowed us to walk out of the cave.
In the bible, darkness is synonymous with sin. No matter how much people try, there is no escape from the darkness of sin. Sin is the absence of light of perfection. The nations are steeped in total darkness and there is nothing that they can do about it. Unfortunately, they will continue to walk about in total darkness, never to find their way out. This is the predicament the nations find themselves. They do not know which way to go because there is only darkness of sin and death.
Today we celebrate Epiphany. The day the light dawned in the darkness. The Magi followed the light of a star, and it led them to the LIGHT. This is the only Light that can pierce the total darkness of sin and death. When the Light dawns, we now have a way to get out of the darkness. Walk toward the Light and you will see the Son of God who came into the world to banish the darkness of your sin and give you life. He is your perfection. He is your life. He is your light! Continue to walk toward the light and the darkness cannot accompany you. Jesus your light and life has appeared once and for all to do away with your sin. You are no longer in the dark, but in the light!
Dear Light of the Gentiles and Glory of your people Israel. Continue to shine brightly in our lives so we may continue to follow you though out our journey in this dark world of sin and death. Deliver us from this world to your glorious home where you dwell with the Father and the Holy Spirit. In your name we pray. Amen.
