What Has the Lord Done for You?

Rev. Mark Bartsch December 30, 2019

I Will Share the Lord’s Kindness

I will tell of the kindnesses of the Lord, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all the Lord has done for us, yes, the many good things he has done for the house of Israel, according to his compassion and many kindnesses. (Isaiah 63: 7)

Another year is coming to a close. Again and again, we say to each other, “Where has the year gone? I can’t believe the next year is 2020.”

As this year comes to an end, look back and take stock of what happened throughout the year:

  • Did you meet your goals?
  • Did you meet with your insurance agent and financial advisor to see if the plans you have are still good for you?
  • Do your investments make good long-term sense or are there necessary adjustments?
  • Are you happy in your present occupation?
  • Do you feel a job change might be a good idea?

There are so many positives and negatives that could be examined. In almost any part of your life, there are choices and decisions to be made.

The prophet Isaiah’s words share good advice with us. “I will tell of the kindnesses of the Lord, the deeds for which He is to be praised, according to all the Lord has done for us—yes, the many good things He has done for the house of Israel, according to His compassion and many kindnesses.”

What has the Lord done? He has given blessings: the gift of spouses and children and families, the gift of a job to do and a place to live, and the gifts of relatives, neighbors, and friends. The most blessed gift he has given us is the forgiveness of sins by faith in Jesus Christ, our Savior. In Jesus, we know our sins are forgiven and that one day our place in heaven is guaranteed.

The Lord has done great things for us. Therefore, we say, “I will share the Lord’s kindness. I will tell what the Lord has done. God has given me the strength and the courage to boldly share his Word. I will invite my neighbors and friends to come with me to hear the Word of the Lord.”

We can look back on the past year and be overwhelmed at the goodness and compassion of the Lord. There have been trials and there have been joys. In all things, God has shared with us His love and His compassion.

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for your love, mercy, and grace. Each day in the year past, you took such good care of us. You loved us with everlasting love. Thank you for the promise that you will continue to love us and forgive every day in the new year to come. In your name, we pray. Amen.
